The City of Cape Town formally welcomed newly sworn-in councillor Liam Jacobs, who commenced his tenure with a resolute commitment to transparency, accountability, and a renewed dedication to building a city that serves all its residents.

Jacobs, representing the Patriotic Alliance (PA), took his oath during a council session on Friday, characterising the occasion as both an honour and a responsibility he commits to fulfilling with unwavering dedication.

“Transparency is of great importance, and I will persist in advocating for it as I have throughout my political career,” Jacobs stated following the ceremony. He underscored that his election to the council marks the commencement of a more resolute and vigorous effort to address longstanding issues impacting ordinary Capetonians.

According to Jacobs, affordability, safety, and liveability continue to be the core focus of his political agenda. He observed that numerous families persist in facing rising living expenses, restricted opportunities, and inconsistent service provision—conditions which he asserts require immediate and equitable attention.

Officially sworn in as a councillor in the City of Cape Town!

Transparency is a BIG thing! And I will continue fighting for it as I have done for all of my political career.

This is the start of an even bigger fight to make Cape Town more affordable, safer and liveable.

This marks the beginning of an even greater effort to enhance the affordability, safety, and liveability of Cape Town, he stated, emphasising that residents throughout all communities are entitled to equal access to opportunities and services.

This marks the beginning of an even greater effort to enhance the affordability, safety, and liveability of Cape Town, he stated, emphasising that residents throughout all communities are entitled to equal access to opportunities and services.

Jacobs emphasised that his appointment does not mark the start of a new chapter but rather a continuation of sustained activism dedicated to transforming Cape Town into a city that serves all its residents, rather than only a privileged few.

This marks the ongoing effort to establish a Cape Town that belongs to all of us, rather than only to some, he stated, reaffirming his dedication to advocating for communities that feel marginalised or neglected.

Political analysts observe that Jacobs’s entrance to the council brings a new perspective at a pivotal moment, as the city contends with discussions regarding housing, public safety, transportation reforms, and socio-economic inclusivity. His position is anticipated to influence critical deliberations and question prevailing dynamics within the legislatures.

Residents and party supporters conveyed optimism that Jacobs’ longstanding commitment to transparency will enhance supervision and accountability within municipal procedures.

As he assumes his new position, Jacobs states his commitment to diligently collaborating with colleagues across political boundaries, civic organisations, and communities to ensure that the City of Cape Town exemplifies fairness, transparency, and collective advancement.

With the oath taken and expectations before him, Councillor Liam Jacobs begins a mission he characterises as “greater than politics”—a dedication to a city in which every resident has a stake, a voice, and an equitable opportunity.
