An IDAC spokesperson confirmed the engagement but stated that Gigaba is not required to appear in court at this time. In a statement, Gigaba said he would cooperate fully with the process.
The charges are part of a larger investigation into alleged corruption and financial misconduct at Transnet during the state capture era.
No timeline has been provided for potential next steps, and the NPA has declined additional details pending the outcome of the current engagements. Gigaba continues in his parliamentary duties amid the unfolding inquiry.
