Nolubabalo Mcinga, the former Deputy President of Mayibuye iAfrika, has proclaimed her political allegiance to the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party. She has described the MK Party as the genuine revolutionary force capable of achieving “total freedom” in South Africa.

Mcinga stated in a statement that was a combination of defiance, conviction, and passion that her decision was not one of betrayal, but rather of ideological clarity. “I am the mother of Mayibuye.” I carried it during labor and delivered it with intention. I am the daughter of the EFF, where I acquired the skills of uncompromising leadership, discipline, and politics. She declared, “I am now aligned with the MK Party, a revolutionary force that will lead this nation to complete freedom.”

As Mayibuye iAfrika—a smaller, youth-driven political movement—has struggled to maintain unity amid leadership tensions, Mcinga’s remarks have sparked renewed debate within progressive circles. Observers contend that her departure is indicative of the internal tension within emerging movements and the increasing magnetic draw of the MK Party in anticipation of the 2026 local government elections.

According to political analysts, Mcinga’s decision to join the MK Party may be indicative of a more generalized trend among grassroots activists who are disillusioned with the fragmented left-wing formations. Thabiso Mofokeng, a political analyst, asserted that the MK Party has successfully established itself as the political residence for individuals who continue to subscribe to liberation principles but desire leadership that is both courageous and visible.

In rural and township areas, the MK Party, which is headed by Jacob Zuma, has been gaining support among voters who feel alienated by mainstream parties. Analysts assert that Mcinga’s endorsement enhances the party’s appeal among younger voters and activists who regard her as a principled and outspoken voice.

Mcinga reflected on her political trajectory during her address, recognizing her time in the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) as a formative experience. “The EFF taught me the importance of fearless leadership and discipline,” she stated. However, each revolution undergoes a process of evolution. The MK Party is the bearer of the torch that is ablaze in pursuit of complete liberation—economic, social, and spiritual.

Mayibuye iAfrika has not yet provided an official statement regarding her departure; however, sources indicate that the party has been “profoundly disturbed” by the information. According to reports, certain members of the organization perceive Mcinga’s decision as a personal decision that is motivated by a higher revolutionary vocation, rather than political opportunism.

As the 2026 elections approach, Mcinga’s defection could serve as a symbol of a changing political climate, in which loyalty to liberation ideals is increasingly prioritized over loyalty to party structures.

“Mcinga concluded that she has previously given birth to movements.” “However, I have elected to incite a revolution.”
