Three Officers to Testify at Madlanga Commission Over Businessman Katiso Molefe’s Arrest. Inquiry to examine police conduct in high-profile Vereeniging murder case.

Three police officers are set to testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry regarding the arrest of Sandton businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe, who is accused of murdering Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart in April 2024.

The officers, who formed part of what has been described as a “take-down operation”, carried out the dramatic arrest in December 2024. Their testimony is expected to shed light on how the operation was planned, executed, and whether all procedural and legal steps were followed.

According to Commission insiders, the officers will provide detailed accounts of the arrest scene, including intelligence reports that led investigators to Molefe’s location. The Commission is also expected to review surveillance footage and communication logs to verify the timeline of events.

Molefe’s arrest drew widespread public attention due to his status as a well-known businessman and philanthropist in Sandton. His alleged involvement in Swart’s killing – reportedly linked to a business dispute – shocked Johannesburg’s corporate circles and sparked debate over corruption, contract rivalries, and the influence of powerful business figures on criminal investigations.

The Madlanga Commission, chaired by retired Justice Mandla Madlanga, continues to probe potential irregularities in the investigation and the broader network surrounding the case. Testimonies from the officers are expected to be pivotal in determining whether due process was followed during Molefe’s arrest and whether external influences played a role.

Proceedings will resume later this week, with further witnesses, including forensic analysts and financial investigators, expected to take the stand as the inquiry digs deeper into one of South Africa’s most scrutinized murder cases.
