Former South African President Jacob Zuma arrived in Burkina Faso on Tuesday to participate in activities organized by MKP International, the international wing of the Umkhonto we Sizwe Veterans Association.

Zuma was greeted with a warm and enthusiastic reception by local officials, veterans, and community members at Ouagadougou International Airport. Delegates and supporters welcomed him with traditional music and ceremonial dances, underscoring the strong historical ties between South Africa’s liberation movement veterans and Burkina Faso.

“It is a great honour to receive President Zuma and to strengthen solidarity among liberation veterans across the continent,” said Burkina Faso Minister of Veterans Affairs, Colonel Issouf Traoré.
The visit forms part of MKP International’s ongoing efforts to promote peace, reconciliation, and veteran welfare across Africa. Zuma is expected to participate in high-level meetings, workshops, and cultural engagements aimed at fostering collaboration among former combatants and promoting regional development initiatives.

Observers note that the visit highlights Zuma’s continued influence in veteran and Pan-African networks, particularly through MKP International’s advocacy on social, economic, and political issues affecting ex-combatants.

During his reception, Zuma expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and emphasized the importance of unity, dialogue, and mutual support among African nations and liberation movements.

“Our shared history and struggles unite us. It is imperative that we continue to support one another and build a future of peace and prosperity for all veterans,” Zuma said in brief remarks.
The week-long visit is expected to include engagements in local communities and meetings with veteran organizations, further cementing ties between South African and West African liberation networks.
