Several KwaZulu-Natal police officers allegedly linked to Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s elite task team are being investigated for stealing Rolex watches and other valuables during operations.
The allegations, now before the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), form part of a wider probe into claims of abduction, torture, and corruption by members of the provincial task team.
According to multiple reports, victims allege they were unlawfully detained and assaulted while officers confiscated personal belongings, including luxury timepieces. The claims have also surfaced before the Madlanga Commission, which is probing alleged police misconduct in KZN.
No officers have yet been convicted, but the controversy has intensified scrutiny on the province’s top police leadership. SAPS officials say internal investigations are continuing, and disciplinary action will follow if wrongdoing is confirmed.
