The Hawks have arrested a 52-year-old teacher, Vuyokazi Gana, in East London following an investigation into alleged human trafficking and prostitution.
According to authorities, the case centres on the alleged recruitment of learners and young women from the former Transkei region, who were reportedly exploited for sex work in parts of the Eastern Cape.
Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale confirmed the arrest, saying Gana faces multiple charges under the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Act.
The suspect is expected to appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court soon. Investigations are continuing, and more arrests have not been ruled out.
