A group of magistrates staged a demonstration today at the Durban Magistrate’s Court, protesting systemic discrimination and exclusion within the judiciary.
The magistrates also called for the immediate implementation of a long-overdue remuneration review to address wage disparities and improve working conditions.
Speaking to reporters, one participant said, “We are committed to upholding justice, but it is equally important that the judiciary treats its own members fairly. We are asking for recognition, equality, and attention to our pay concerns.”
The protest concluded peacefully, with magistrates vowing to continue pressing for meaningful reforms until their demands are addressed.
