Julius Malema Admits In Court That He Fired Real Gun During His Trial, Says White Man Was Innocent

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema made a startling revelation during his ongoing firearm discharge trial after he admitted in court that he fired a real gun during the incident in question. The case, which has drawn national attention, relates to a 2018 event in East London where Malema was seen allegedly firing a rifle during the EFF’s fifth anniversary celebrations at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium.

During his testimony, Malema told the court that the gun he fired was indeed real, confirming what prosecutors have alleged for years. This admission marks a significant turning point in the high-profile trial, as Malema had previously suggested that the firearm may have been a replica used for demonstration purposes during the celebration.

However, in an unexpected twist, Malema also told the court that the White security officer linked to the incident was innocent, stating that the man had nothing to do with the weapon or its handling. His statement was seen as an attempt to absolve the officer from blame amid suggestions that the gun may have been handed to Malema by one of the security team members.

Legal analysts observing the case have described Malema’s admission as damaging to his defense. The revelation could severely weaken his chances of overturning the case if found guilty, with some experts suggesting that his prospects of winning on appeal appear slim.

Malema is facing charges under the Firearms Control Act for the illegal discharge of a firearm in a public place and reckless endangerment. The prosecution argues that his actions were not only unlawful but also set a dangerous example for his supporters and the public at large.

Throughout the proceedings, Malema has maintained that he did not intend to harm anyone and that the act was symbolic, performed in celebration and not as a threat. However, the court has emphasized that discharging a firearm in a crowded environment poses serious safety risks, regardless of intent.

The case continues to generate widespread debate across South Africa, with many political commentators noting that the outcome could have far-reaching implications for Malema’s political career and the image of the EFF.

Judgment in the matter is expected once all testimonies and arguments have been concluded. For now, Malema’s admission that he fired a real gun has left both supporters and critics eagerly awaiting the court’s final ruling.
