The African National Congress (ANC) has officially confirmed that controversial North West businessman Brown Mogotsi is not a member of the party. This statement comes after testimony at the Madlanga Commission linked Mogotsi to alleged organized criminal activity.
ANC national spokesperson Mahlengi Bengu-Motsiri stated that the party’s records show Mogotsi’s membership has expired. The party strongly distanced itself from allegations that Mogotsi used his purported ANC connections to solicit money from criminals, including businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, in exchange for protection and access to police documents.
In her statement, Bengu-Motsiri described organized crime as a “counter-revolutionary” force that undermines democracy. She emphasized that the ANC will act against any member involved in criminal activity, referring such cases to its Integrity Commission and law enforcement.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to renewal and good governance, stating it will not allow its name to be associated with individuals who betray its principles for personal gain.
