EFF leader Julius Malema has been found guilty of reckless endangerment for discharging a firearm in public. The verdict was delivered by Magistrate Twanet Olivier following a review of testimonies from the trial.
The charges stem from an incident at a 2018 political rally in Mdantsane, where Malema was accused of firing a rifle. He was charged with violating the Firearms Control Act.
Malema’s former bodyguard, Adriaan Snyman, who was tried alongside him, was found not guilty.
The case has been postponed to January 23, 2026, for pre-sentencing arguments. The court will then decide on an appropriate sentence.
