Modimolle Regional Court – Proceedings in the high-profile Phala Phala farm theft case continued today, with the defence for Accused No. 1, Imanuwela David, insisting that no evidence presented so far has directly implicated him in the $580,000 robbery.

Speaking outside court, David’s lawyer said the testimony heard so far merely outlined how money was handled after the break-in and how the incident was reported to President Cyril Ramaphosa and the farm manager.

“The witness was explaining how he received the money, what he did with it, and who he called afterwards. At this stage, no one has been implicated,” the lawyer stated.

The state is expected to call 22 witnesses, some of whom are anticipated to directly link David to the crime as the alleged mastermind. The defence, however, emphasised that any such claims would need to be tested under cross-examination.

“Whoever comes forward will be cross-examined. For now, there is no evidence that labels my client as the mastermind. The case will stand or fall on the evidence brought to court,” the lawyer added.
