Popular SABC1 soapie *Uzalo* is welcoming back actress Nelisa Mchunu to its cast. After a four-year absence, Mchunu will return to her role as Fikile, a glamorous and cunning character.

Mchunu described returning to the show as a homecoming to her “first love.” Her character, Fikile, left the show four years ago without saying goodbye to her on-screen love interest, Sbu. Her return is expected to disrupt his life and rekindle their complicated relationship.

“What to expect from my character’s return is the same ‘Beyoncé’ energy,” Mchunu said, teasing a “wild ride” for viewers. She will first appear on screen on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

Alongside this return, the show is introducing new characters to keep the storylines fresh. Jamy Lee Simons joins as Joanne Davids, a character drawn to the complex Nkunzi. Mondli Nkomo will play Mr. Dongwe, the estranged husband of MaDongwe, whose sudden return after ten years will create new drama.

The head of production for the show expressed excitement about Mchunu’s return, calling Fikile a fan-favorite who brings depth and excitement. He also welcomed the new actors, stating that the mix of familiar and new faces will keep the show vibrant.

SABC1’s head of channel officially welcomed the actors, noting that these changes promise to add more twists to the soapie’s already complex stories.
