Exposed: The Sho-cking Health Risks That Could End Matlala’s Life in Prison – Matlala Speak Out

Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, the controversial businessman known for his involvement in high-profile tender deals, appeared at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday seeking bail, citing serious health concerns.

Facing charges of attempting to harm his ex-girlfriend, actress and influencer Tebogo Thobejane, Matlala’s legal team argued that his medical conditions could deteriorate behind bars.

“I suffer from asthma and chronic tonsillitis,” Matlala told the court. “If I fall ill in prison, it could be fatal.” He revealed he had been hospitalized twice for these conditions, once in 2021 and again in August 2023.

His lawyer, Advocate Laurence Hodes SC, emphasized that bail is crucial not only for Matlala’s health but also to allow him to prepare adequately for his upcoming trial. “His medical history is well-documented,” Hodes told the court, “and remaining in custody poses a serious risk to his life.

Matlala also indicated his willingness to meet bail conditions, stating he could arrange R100,000 if granted release.

The application has raised questions about how the justice system handles detainees with severe health risks, particularly in cases attracting intense public scrutiny.

The court has yet to rule on Matlala’s bail request, leaving his future uncertain as the trial looms.
