South Africa’s IFP Party Accuses Gauteng Premier of Lack of Transparency

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has expressed strong criticism against Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, accusing his administration of a lack of transparency.

Alco Ngobese, the IFP’s provincial secretary, stated that the provincial government fails to provide clear details on critical issues. These issues include service delivery, public safety, and how public money is managed. Ngobese described the premier’s style as a “closed-door manner” that shuts out opposition parties and citizens.

“The IFP is deeply concerned by Premier Lesufi’s continued disregard for accountability,” Ngobese said. He argued that while the government makes big promises, it offers few details on how these goals are achieved or measured.

The criticism focuses on the premier’s high-profile programs in education, security, and job creation. The IFP and other opposition parties acknowledge these initiatives but question their secrecy and lack of measurable results.

Ngobese emphasized that the party is not simply opposing for the sake of it but is calling for greater openness. “Without transparency, these initiatives risk becoming public relations exercises rather than real solutions,” he added.

A major concern for the IFP is the provincial budget. The party claims that key financial figures are not easily accessible or properly explained to the public. They argue this lack of engagement with opposition parties weakens democracy and public trust.

The IFP has called on Premier Lesufi to open up decision-making processes, improve communication, and release detailed reports on how public funds are spent.

While Premier Lesufi has previously defended his administration as results-driven, opposition parties insist that without transparency, it is impossible to verify his claims. The IFP has warned it will continue to push for accountability in the legislature.
