MK Party in Turmoil as Treasurer Alleges R28 Million Debt Left by Former Leader

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) faces fresh controversy after treasurer general Mpiyakhe Limba publicly claimed its former secretary general departed leaving a staggering R28 million debt. The bombshell allegation, made during a Newzroom405 interview, exposes deepening rifts within the former president Jacob Zuma-aligned party.

While Limba avoided naming names, the remarks clearly targeted former deputy Floyd Shivambu – recently expelled amid leadership tensions. The treasurer provided no detailed breakdown of the alleged debt, raising questions about financial oversight in the fledgling party that has positioned itself as a corruption watchdog.

This financial bombshell comes as:
• The MKP faces scrutiny over its funding sources
• Shivambu’s expulsion fuels speculation of a purge
• The party prepares for crucial elections

Political analyst Sipho Dlamini notes: “Public airing of financial disputes damages credibility for a party campaigning on clean governance. These revelations may shake voter confidence in their internal accountability.”

The MKP has yet to produce documentary evidence of the debt claim. Shivambu, who previously accused MKP leadership of municipal fund mismanagement, remains silent on the latest allegations.

With the party’s reputation for financial transparency now under fire, observers warn the scandal could overshadow its campaign messaging. The coming days may reveal whether this develops into a legal battle or further internal upheaval within Zuma’s political project.
