ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula spoke to the public on Wednesday, sharing important decisions from the party’s recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. The meeting was seen as crucial for the ANC’s future, especially with local elections approaching and internal challenges rising.

Speaking live on SABC News, Mbalula stressed the ANC’s focus on accountability, economic recovery, youth jobs, and rebuilding trust in government.

“We need strong leadership to build a capable state. Ethics must come first,” Mbalula said.

Key decisions from the NEC meeting include:

  • Stronger Leadership Rules: The ANC will take action against leaders who underperform or act unethically in government roles.

  • Fixing Local Government: A new plan aims to improve struggling municipalities with better services and financial management.

  • Boosting the Economy: A new team will work with businesses to create jobs, support small businesses, and develop rural areas.

  • Preparing for 2026 Elections: The ANC will start early campaign efforts and check if local branches are ready.

Mbalula also addressed rumors of divisions within the ANC, saying unity is essential and that the NEC focuses on serving the country, not personal goals.

The ANC’s Integrity Commission has reviewed cases involving some high-ranking members, which could lead to suspensions or disciplinary steps. Mbalula said no one would be protected from consequences.

In the coming weeks, ANC leaders will visit provinces to explain these decisions directly to members. Analysts see this as a move to strengthen support and stabilize regions where the party faces challenges.

After the briefing, social media buzzed with discussions, and political experts called the timing strategic, as the ANC faces pressure from opposition parties and demands for openness.
