Malema Exposes Extortion Attempt at EFF Anniversary Event

EFF leader Julius Malema shocked supporters at the party’s 12th anniversary celebrations in Khayelitsha by revealing criminals had tried to extort money from event organizers. Addressing the massive crowd gathered under the event’s signature dome structure, Malema described how alleged extortionists demanded “protection fees” from contractors building the venue.

“We told them clearly – if they value their lives, they’d better back off,” Malema declared to roaring cheers from the red-clad crowd. The fiery leader vowed the EFF wouldn’t be intimidated, warning: “Try to extort us and you’ll meet your maker. We’ll show you real flames.”

The incident spotlights South Africa’s rampant construction extortion rackets, where gangs routinely shake down projects for payments. While Malema didn’t confirm if police were involved, he emphasized the party’s refusal to submit to criminal demands.

The revelation cast a shadow over the otherwise jubilant #EFFTurns12 festivities, which drew thousands to Cape Town for impassioned calls about economic justice. Supporters praised Malema’s tough stance, but the episode raised fresh concerns about criminal elements targeting major public events and infrastructure projects nationwide.

As celebrations continued with militant songs and speeches, Malema’s disclosure served as a stark reminder of the security challenges facing political gatherings and development projects across South Africa. The EFF’s uncompromising response sets a precedent in the ongoing battle against construction site extortion – a crisis costing the economy billions annually.
