KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thulasizwe Buthelezi has formally requested written explanations from two provincial cabinet members following their involvement in separate scandals that have raised public concern.

The Premier’s office confirmed the letters were sent this week, giving the unnamed MECs a deadline to respond to allegations. While details remain undisclosed, sources suggest one case involves procurement irregularities in a community development project, while the other relates to alleged political interference in government appointments.

“This demonstrates the Premier’s commitment to accountability,” said a senior official. “Leadership demands transparency, especially when public trust is at stake.”

Political analysts have praised the move. “After years of governance scandals in KZN, this decisive action helps rebuild credibility,” said analyst Dr. Thandiwe Mkhize.

Buthelezi clarified that seeking explanations doesn’t presume guilt but strengthens governance protocols. Depending on the responses, further investigations or disciplinary measures may follow.

The provincial government pledged to update the public while following due process. With growing scrutiny, attention now turns to how the MECs will respond and what actions the Premier may take next.
