Johannesburg Deputy Mayor Kenny Kunene Faces Calls for Removal Amid Controversy

Johannesburg’s Deputy Mayor, Kenny Kunene, is once again at the center of a political storm. The Democratic Alliance (DA) has demanded his immediate removal, arguing that he is unfit for public office.

The DA’s strong stance follows a series of controversies involving Kunene, including public outbursts, allegations of wasteful spending, and a recent questionable “undercover meeting” that has sparked further scrutiny. A DA spokesperson criticized Kunene, calling him a “public relations nightmare” and accusing him of treating the city like a personal stage rather than a place of governance.

Kunene, known as the “Sushi King” before entering politics with the Patriotic Alliance (PA), has long been a polarizing figure. Supporters praise his charisma and relatability, while critics argue he lacks the experience needed for his role.

Public reaction has been divided. Some Johannesburg residents on social media insist Kunene should step down, saying the city deserves better leadership. Others defend him, calling him authentic and different from traditional politicians.

With tensions rising, the ANC-EFF coalition, which backs Kunene’s position, faces a tough decision—stand by him or distance themselves. As the debate intensifies, Kunene’s political future hangs in the balance.

What do you think? Should Kunene stay or go? Share your thoughts below. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
