Police in KwaZulu-Natal are alerting the public about an increase in fake social media accounts impersonating Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. These fraudulent profiles use his name and photo to deceive people, causing confusion and concern. Authorities are urging residents to be cautious and confirm the legitimacy of any accounts claiming to represent him.

Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi is a prominent figure in the province, making him a target for scammers. The fake accounts often send messages or share posts that appear official, making it difficult for the public to identify the deception. Police are concerned about the potential harm to public trust and security.

Investigations into these fake accounts are ongoing, and police advise people not to engage with suspicious messages or requests. Only verified official accounts should be trusted. The Provincial Commissioner has emphasized the need for vigilance, clarifying that his genuine social media profiles are clearly marked.

Police spokesperson Sakhi Nxumalo encouraged the public to report any suspicious accounts to help authorities take action. Community cooperation is key to stopping these fake profiles from spreading misinformation or scams.

The rise of impersonation accounts not only misleads the public but also risks damaging the police’s credibility. False information from these accounts could harm trust in law enforcement and disrupt policing efforts.

Social media is an important tool for police communication, but fake accounts make it harder for people to distinguish real updates from scams. Authorities remind users to verify information before trusting online sources.

This warning is part of broader efforts to combat online fraud and protect the public. By raising awareness, police aim to prevent people from falling victim to scams or false news.

Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi’s reputation is being exploited, and police are working to stop these impersonations. The public is urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to help maintain trust and safety.

This issue highlights how criminals misuse technology, and police stress the importance of public vigilance. Cooperation between law enforcement and the community is essential to keeping online spaces secure.

By spreading this message, police hope to preserve trust in Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi’s official communications and prevent fraudsters from exploiting his identity. The goal is to safeguard the public and maintain confidence in the police service.
