Former football star Teko Modise is embroiled in a costly divorce battle as his estranged wife, Koketso Chipane, seeks R1.2 million in their ongoing settlement. The ex-Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, now retired, has been negotiating the payout after living separately from Koketso for more than a year.
The couple legally married in 2021 following a traditional ceremony in 2018, but their relationship showed signs of trouble when they stopped interacting on social media. Koketso, a social media influencer known as Kokieberry, is reportedly asking for the money to settle debts, including an overdraft, as part of an agreed separation.
This latest financial demand adds to Modise’s past money troubles. In 2019, he nearly lost his Fourways home after defaulting on a R2.7 million home loan. His net worth is estimated between R14.2 million and R20 million, a decline from his peak football earnings of R450,000 per month. He has also faced previous maintenance disputes with his first wife, Felicia Modise.
Since retiring, Modise has worked as a sports analyst and ventured into fashion through African Fashion International. However, the hefty divorce settlement could strain his post-career finances, putting pressure on his business and personal stability.
Neither Modise nor Koketso has publicly commented on the latest developments.
