The Hawks have confirmed they are investigating Higher Education Minister Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane following a complaint by the Democratic Alliance (DA). The DA accuses Nkabane of lying to Parliament and improperly influencing appointments to Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) boards.
The allegations include fraud and violating the Powers, Privileges, and Immunities of Parliament Act. Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale stated that the case is in its early stages, and further details cannot be disclosed publicly.
The DA’s national spokesperson, Karabo Khakhau, welcomed the investigation, saying it reflects the seriousness of the complaint. Khakhau criticized President Cyril Ramaphosa for not taking action against Nkabane and other ANC ministers accused of corruption, including Human Settlements Minister Thembi Simelane.
Nkabane has yet to publicly respond to the allegations. The investigation continues as pressure mounts on the ANC-led government to address claims of misconduct within its ranks.
