A 44-year-old Limpopo man accused of murdering and dismembering his elderly mother appeared briefly in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The case was postponed to next week for further investigation.

The suspect faces charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice. Police say he allegedly killed his 87-year-old mother at their home in Seshego Zone 5 earlier this month. Her body was reportedly cut into pieces and placed in plastic buckets, which were discovered during a welfare check.

Neighbors raised the alarm after not seeing the elderly woman for several days. When police arrived, they found sealed buckets containing human remains. Forensic tests confirmed the body parts belonged to the victim, and an autopsy revealed she had been stabbed multiple times before being dismembered.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and appeared calm. He remains in custody while undergoing psychological evaluation.

In court, prosecutors requested more time for forensic analysis and mental health assessments. The case was postponed to July 7.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba called the crime one of the most disturbing in recent years. “This is a heartbreaking case, and we are working to ensure justice is served,” he said.

The Seshego community remains in shock, with counselors assisting traumatized family members and neighbors. The accused will stay in jail until his next court date.
