Shivambu Slams Chief Justice Zondo, Defends Zuma

Former MK Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu has sharply criticized Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, claiming he has lost all credibility. “I have no respect for Zondo, zero… he actually made me respect President Zuma more,” Shivambu said in a recent interview.

His comments come amid ongoing debate about the Zondo Commission’s investigation into state capture during Zuma’s presidency. While some saw the inquiry as crucial for accountability, others, like Shivambu, argue it was politically biased.

“Zondo abandoned fairness—his approach wasn’t judicial, it was political,” Shivambu claimed. “The more he targeted Zuma, the more people reconsidered Zuma’s legacy.”

Legal experts have pushed back, warning that such attacks risk undermining trust in the judiciary. Advocate Thuli Moeketsi stated, “Criticism is valid, but outright disrespect from public figures damages our institutions.”

Shivambu, however, insists his stance reflects public frustration with “selective justice,” accusing the commission of mishandling evidence. His remarks have reignited debate about the state capture inquiry’s legacy and Zuma’s complex political standing.

As South Africa’s political divisions persist, Shivambu’s outspoken criticism keeps these tensions in the spotlight—raising questions about his own political motives and future.
