The MK Party has removed Floyd Shivambu from his position as secretary general following his unauthorized trip to Malawi to visit fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri. The party stated that the visit violated its constitution.

Shivambu—who defected from the EFF in 2023—will remain an MK Party MP despite the demotion. His meeting with Bushiri, who faces fraud and money laundering charges in South Africa, sparked public backlash.

The MK Party has not clarified whether further disciplinary steps will follow. Meanwhile, political analysts question whether this signals growing tensions within the party.
