In 2024, Sihle Lonzi, then President of the EFF Student Command, was sworn in as a Member of Parliament for the EFF. During his tenure, he worked diligently, and under his leadership, the EFFSC successfully expanded its influence across higher education institutions. Many within the EFF believed he would effectively contribute to the legislative process and represent the youth who had supported his campaigns.

Lonzi replaced Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and has proven to be a capable successor. He has previously been removed from Parliament for questioning the appointment of Gwede Mantashe’s son as a chairperson of the CETA boards. This has often led to clashes with other MPs. Recently, Lonzi directed a pointed question at Minister John Steenhuisen, asking, “Deputy Speaker, perhaps we ought to ask the minister if it counts as building when he sleeps with the wives of his colleagues in his political party.”

Steenhuisen responded, “Because I am all for accountability, I will answer the honorable Sihle Lonzi that I’ve learned in politics for a sufficient amount of time that the only people who worry about what goes on in other people’s bedrooms have nothing going on in their own.”

MP Reddy then questioned the Deputy Speaker, “How is it that the Minister is aware of what is taking place in the bed of Honourable Lonzi?”
