Mary Phadi Claims Zuma’s Support for Mpumalanga Leadership

Mary Phadi, a prominent leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), has stated that the party’s leadership in Mpumalanga operates with the full endorsement of former president Jacob Zuma. Her remarks come amid reports of internal divisions and allegations of factionalism within the provincial structures.

Phadi made the declaration during a media briefing on Wednesday, asserting that Zuma, the party’s de facto leader, has endorsed the current provincial leadership. “We want to reassure our members and the public that we are not self-appointed. President Zuma knows us and has given us his full support to advance the MK Party’s mission in Mpumalanga,” she said.

Accompanied by other provincial leaders, Phadi dismissed claims that her authority was illegitimate or unrecognized at the national level. She suggested that such narratives were being spread by disgruntled individuals without official party backing. “Those who claim otherwise are causing confusion. The MKP is built on discipline and commitment to President Zuma’s vision. We are here to serve the people, not ourselves,” she added.

Recent weeks have seen rising tensions within the party’s provincial ranks, with some members accusing leadership of sidelining grassroots structures and pursuing personal agendas. However, Phadi assured supporters that the party remains united and true to its founding principles.

“Our structures are strong, and our programs align with the national leadership. We are growing daily and will not be distracted by internal disputes or external interference,” she said.

She also called on party members to remain disciplined and focus on mobilizing communities ahead of upcoming elections. “We urge all comrades to respect the party’s processes. President Zuma’s legacy and leadership guide us,” Phadi stated.

The MK Party, formed in late 2023, continues to expand its presence across provinces, positioning itself as a pro-Zuma movement challenging the ANC from within the liberation tradition. As the party works to strengthen its support base, Mpumalanga remains a key battleground. Phadi maintains that they are ready to lead with Zuma’s full backing.
