Prominent Newzroom Afrika anchor Aldrin Sampear is facing assault charges following a road rage incident in Randburg that has sparked widespread public discussion.
The altercation occurred on Thursday afternoon along Jan Smuts Avenue and was recorded on video, which has since circulated widely on South African social media. The incident involved a 20-year-old woman who accused Sampear of aggressive behavior after a minor collision.
According to the woman, Sampear had been tailgating and sounding his horn before the crash. She claims the collision happened when a taxi stopped suddenly, forcing her to merge in front of Sampear’s vehicle.
In the video, Sampear is seen confronting the woman, asking if she had gestured at him, while she accuses him of hitting her. The exchange grows heated, and the woman later alleged that Sampear attempted to leave before her family arrived. She subsequently opened a case of assault, describing his behavior as “intimidating and aggressive.”
Sampear confirmed to IOL that a minor accident occurred but denied any physical assault, stating that the interaction was limited to a verbal argument. The case has drawn significant attention, with many weighing in on social media about road safety and conflict resolution.
Authorities are investigating the matter as the legal process unfolds.
