Mkhwanazi informed *IOL* that IPID had notified him he no longer needed to respond to allegations accusing him of shielding a prison official allegedly involved in drug dealing. However, IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping did not explicitly confirm the closure of the investigation, stating only that the directorate was continuing its work and would issue a formal statement upon completion.
