In a major boost for South African football, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced a groundbreaking two-year partnership with global sports technology leader Hudl. The deal, spanning the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons, will give Hudl exclusive access to match footage and performance data from South Africa’s top three professional competitions.

The agreement covers the DStv Premiership, second-tier Motsepe Foundation Championship, and developmental DStv Diski Challenge (U-23 league). All match content will be made available through Wyscout, the world’s premier football video and data platform used by scouts, analysts and coaches worldwide.

“This partnership represents a quantum leap in how South African football leverages technology,” said a PSL spokesperson. “By integrating Hudl’s cutting-edge tools, we’re empowering our clubs with the same resources used by elite teams globally.”

Hudl’s industry-leading platform currently serves over 200,000 sports teams across 40+ sports worldwide. The Nebraska-based company provides a complete ecosystem of performance analysis tools including:

  • Advanced video breakdown software
  • AI-powered player tracking
  • Mobile and desktop coaching applications
  • Smart camera systems
  • Data analytics and professional consultation services

The deal promises to transform how PSL clubs prepare for matches, scout talent and develop players. Coaches will gain access to comprehensive opponent analysis, while emerging players in the Diski Challenge will benefit from enhanced visibility among international scouts.

“This collaboration aligns perfectly with our mission to raise the technical standard of South African football,” added the PSL representative. “The wealth of data will create new opportunities for player development and tactical innovation.”

The partnership comes as South African football seeks to close the technology gap with leading European leagues. With six million users worldwide, Hudl’s platform is trusted by clubs ranging from grassroots teams to Champions League contenders.

As the 2024-25 season approaches, PSL technical staff are expected to undergo training on Hudl’s systems, ensuring South Africa’s football community fully capitalizes on this technological advancement. Analysts predict the deal could significantly enhance the league’s global profile while modernizing player development pathways.
