Award-winning actress and producer Sonia Mbele has revealed that she ended a secret engagement with her ex-boyfriend due to his “bad habits” and also cut ties with a married businessman, refusing to be his “side chick.”

In an exclusive revelation, Sunday World learned that Mbele—best known for her roles in Generations, Blood & Water, and Family Secrets—was quietly engaged in 2023 after her then-boyfriend surprised her with an expensive silver ring. However, the romance soured, leading to their breakup.

A close friend of the actress, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Mbele had been in a serious relationship with the unnamed man before calling it off.

“He proposed with a costly ring, and for a while, things were blissful. But eventually, she had enough and walked away,” the source said.

Rejecting a Married Man

Mbele also confirmed that she had been involved with a businessman but ended the relationship upon discovering he was married.

“She entertained him because she believed he was single. The moment she found out the truth, she left—she refuses to be anyone’s second choice,” the insider added.

Known for her strong principles, Mbele reportedly avoids scandal and refuses to engage in secret affairs that could tarnish her reputation.

“She’s not the type to sneak around in sunglasses and hats, hiding a forbidden romance. If she’s in love, she wants it to be open and honest,” the source explained.

Clarifying the Engagement Claims

When contacted for comment, Mbele admitted her ex had bought her a ring but denied they were formally engaged.

“He never put the ring on my finger,” she clarified. However, she stood by her decision to leave both men, emphasizing self-respect.

The media personality recently made headlines after flaunting a R5-million red Ferrari, further cementing her status as a successful businesswoman unafraid to live life on her own terms.

Mbele, who divorced high-profile lawyer Leslie Sedibe in 2017 after a fairytale Sun City wedding, continues to focus on her career, including producing The Real Housewives of Joburg and hosting her podcast, Woza Nazo.

Her stance on relationships remains clear: no bad habits, no cheating, and no hidden affairs.
