ANC’s Fikile Mbalula Vows to Enforce Discipline Ahead of 2026 Elections

African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula has issued a stern warning to party members, emphasizing the ANC’s commitment to maintaining discipline within its ranks. The statement comes at a critical time for the ruling party as it prepares for the 2026 local government elections and seeks to address internal divisions and instances of misconduct that have raised concerns about its governance.

Mbalula’s message underscores the ANC’s determination to hold its members accountable for actions that violate the party’s constitution or undermine its principles. While he did not name specific individuals, the Secretary General made it clear that the party will not tolerate inflammatory statements, challenges to party decisions, or behavior that contradicts ANC policies.

“The ANC will not hesitate to take action against those who undermine our values and principles,” Mbalula stated. “Discipline is non-negotiable, and we must present a united front to the public.”

The ANC’s disciplinary process has historically been a key tool for maintaining order within the party. However, critics have pointed out that enforcement has often been inconsistent, with some members facing severe penalties while others escape consequences. Mbalula’s statement signals a renewed effort to address these inconsistencies and restore confidence in the party’s internal governance.

In recent years, the ANC has faced numerous challenges that have tested its unity and coherence. Public incidents of misconduct among party members have damaged the ANC’s reputation and raised doubts about its ability to govern effectively. Mbalula’s emphasis on discipline reflects the party’s recognition of these issues and its commitment to addressing them ahead of the 2026 elections.

As the ANC gears up for the upcoming polls, maintaining discipline within its ranks will be crucial for its success. Internal tensions and divisions can weaken the party’s standing and make it vulnerable to external threats. By taking a firm stance on discipline, the ANC aims to project a united and effective image, demonstrating its ability to govern in the best interests of all South Africans.

The coming months will be a litmus test for the ANC’s ability to enforce its rules consistently and restore public trust. For now, Mbalula’s warning serves as a reminder that the party is determined to uphold its values and principles, even as it navigates a complex political landscape.
