Popular actress Asavela Mngqithi is trending after breaking her silence on her private life, which she had kept away from the public eye. Known for her standout role in Isibaya, Asavela has had an impressive career that made her one of South Africa’s most-followed celebrities.

Confirms Divorce from Businessman Vuyisa Mqokiyana

During a candid interview with ZiMoja, Asavela revealed that she and her husband, businessman Vuyisa Mqokiyana, have officially divorced. Despite the split, she downplayed rumours of tension between them and emphasized their commitment to co-parenting.

“We have a beautiful relationship. He is a good father to his children. Nothing has changed besides the fact that we are no longer together. We are both there for our kid,” Asavela said.

When asked about the possibility of remarrying, she remained open to the idea. “I can’t paint all men with the same brush. I would definitely get married again,” she added.

Motherhood and a Career Comeback

After taking a two-year break from acting to focus on raising her daughter, Asavela announced that she is ready to return to the small screen. Reflecting on how motherhood has reshaped her perspective, she said she plans to be more selective about the roles she takes on.

“I want to be discerning in what I take on, especially because I have someone looking up to me. I won’t take on aggressive roles unless they serve a purpose—whether to drive a story or make an impact. South Africa needs more educational productions,” she told IOL.

The actress also revealed that she now has someone she trusts to care for her daughter, giving her the freedom to focus on her career once again.

Social Media Buzz and Cryptic Posts

This is the first time Asavela has publicly spoken about her divorce, which sparked headlines in September last year. The rumours gained momentum after she shared a series of cryptic posts on social media.

In one post, she shared photos dressed in black outside the KwaZulu-Natal High Court, captioned: “Woof, woof. It has been lovely enkosi” (thank you). Another screenshot of a text message she posted read: “Asime dali (let’s stop, darling). Thanks nge experience.”

In August last year, speculation of infidelity surfaced after an X (formerly Twitter) user alleged that Vuyisa Mqokiyana had cheated on Asavela, prompting her to file for divorce. At the time, Asavela remained silent, leaving fans guessing.

Marriage and Traditional Wedding

In 2022, Asavela confirmed her marriage to Vuyisa Mqokiyana with a heartfelt post: “I officially became Mrs Mqokiyana. Emzini bathe ndingu kwande umdeni, uthando ne Mpilo” (They welcomed me into their family with love and life). She also shared photos of her traditional wedding ceremony in the Eastern Cape, which was widely celebrated.

As she prepares for her return to acting, Asavela continues to inspire fans with her resilience and openness, proving that she’s ready to conquer both personal and professional challenges.
