Tensions within the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party have reached a boiling point as members of a key branch call for the removal of prominent High Command members Floyd Shivambu and Mcunu. The two leaders stand accused of failing to account for millions of rand in missing funds, sparking a fierce debate over accountability and the future of the party.
The controversy centers on R66 million reportedly allocated for development projects in KwaZulu-Natal and an additional R22 million in private donations. Members have alleged that Shivambu and Mcunu have been evasive in providing transparency about the funds, prompting demands for immediate action.
“We demand accountability. These individuals cannot remain in leadership when they are unable to account for missing funds. As members of uMkhonto weSizwe, we say away with looters,” a branch spokesperson declared.
Amid the turmoil, the branch has voiced strong support for Dudu Zuma-Sambudla, the outspoken daughter of former President Jacob Zuma and a prominent party leader. Members believe she has been unfairly targeted by factions within the party seeking to undermine her leadership.
“Dudu must be protected at all costs. She represents the values we stand for and has been a champion for transparency and the people’s movement,” a member asserted.
Discontent has also grown over the inclusion of leaders with affiliations to the ANC and EFF, whom members accuse of lacking ties to the party’s foundational struggles.
“They were not here when we started the People’s Movement. Now they come with their questionable baggage and expect us to ignore their actions,” said another member.
The MK Party leadership has yet to issue an official statement on the allegations, but insiders warn that the situation could escalate into a full-blown leadership crisis if left unaddressed.
Political analysts caution that the internal divisions could damage the party’s credibility and alienate its support base, particularly as it positions itself ahead of upcoming elections.
For now, branch members remain resolute in their demand for transparency and integrity. They argue that the party’s survival depends on rooting out corruption and ensuring that its leadership upholds the values upon which the MK Party was founded. As pressure mounts, all eyes are on the party’s leadership to resolve the crisis and restore confidence among its members.
