The MK Party is facing significant internal unrest as members voice outrage over allegations of financial mismanagement involving millions of rand. During a recent meeting, branch members unanimously rejected High Command members Floyd and Mcunu, accusing them of failing to account for substantial funds reportedly missing from the party’s coffers.

The controversy centers on two unaccounted sums: R66 million in KwaZulu-Natal and R22 million in donor contributions. Members expressed frustration over the lack of transparency, demanding a comprehensive investigation and accountability for the missing funds.

A representative of the discontented members declared, “As members of Mkhonto weSizwe, we say ‘away with looters who come from the EFF and ANC, which were not here when we started the People’s Movement.’” The remark reflects growing disillusionment with individuals perceived as prioritizing personal gain over the party’s mission.

Long-standing members accused newcomers of undermining the movement’s principles. “We are tired of seeing individuals use the MK Party as a springboard for self-interest,” a senior member stated. “This is not what we fought for. We demand a detailed audit and immediate action against those responsible for any wrongdoing.”

Tensions over these allegations have reportedly been building for months, with grassroots members increasingly agitated by what they see as weak leadership and a lack of ethical governance. Calls for Floyd and Mcunu to step down pending the investigation were met with overwhelming support.

Efforts to contact Floyd and Mcunu for comment were unsuccessful, but the party’s leadership has acknowledged the allegations and pledged a formal inquiry. “We take these concerns seriously,” a spokesperson said. “The integrity of our party and the trust of our members are paramount.”

The MK Party, which was founded as a grassroots movement committed to liberation and accountability, now faces a critical test of its legitimacy. Resolving these issues will be vital for the party to maintain its credibility and purpose in South Africa’s political landscape.

For many members, this is a defining moment. Their demand for transparency and accountability signals a growing push for change within the organization. Whether the party’s leadership can rise to the challenge and restore trust remains uncertain, but the stakes for the MK Party’s future have never been higher.
