MK Party Suspends Two KZN MPLs and Caucus Manager Over Alleged Financial Misconduct

The MK Party has suspended two Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) in KwaZulu-Natal, Thobani Zuma and Kwazi Mbanjwa, along with caucus manager Sifiso Zuma, pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings. The decision was confirmed by the party’s spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, and first reported by The Daily Sun.

The suspensions stem from allegations of financial misconduct and breaches of the party’s constitution. Thobani Zuma and Kwazi Mbanjwa are accused of refusing to transfer control of party funds allocated for constituency work to Willies Mchunu and Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza. Meanwhile, Sifiso Zuma faces accusations of overstepping his authority by employing 65 individuals as party staff, allegedly depleting the party’s financial resources in the process.

The suspension letters, dated December 31, 2024, were issued by the party’s Secretary-General, Floyd Shivambu, following consultations with the party’s leadership. According to Ndhlela, the decision was taken by party president Jacob Zuma and the National High Command to address serious violations of the MK Party’s principles.

“Their matters have been referred to the National Prosecutor, where they’ll be required to make representations during the disciplinary hearing,” said Ndhlela.

The MK Party emphasized its commitment to discipline and accountability, vowing to address internal irregularities to maintain its integrity.

“These comrades are advised to present their cases accordingly to the National Disciplinary Committee during their respective disciplinary processes,” Ndhlela stated. “As an organisation that aims to reflect discipline and accountability, the MK Party must demonstrate its ability to lead society with dignity and integrity from within its own ranks.”

The suspended members are long-time associates of former President Jacob Zuma, raising questions about internal dynamics within the party. Despite their close ties to the party president, the MK Party insists that its disciplinary measures are impartial and necessary to uphold its values.

The disciplinary hearings are expected to shed light on the allegations and the future of the suspended members within the party. For now, the MK Party is sending a clear message that it has zero tolerance for misconduct and is prepared to take decisive action against those who breach its code of conduct.
