Mbuso Mandela, grandson of the late former president Nelson Mandela, has been cleared of all charges by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) following his arrest in connection with a stolen vehicle discovered at the family’s Houghton property. After a court appearance on Friday, Mbuso Mandela was granted bail and released, though the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

The stolen vehicle, found on the grounds of the Houghton residence once inhabited by Nelson Mandela, led to Mbuso Mandela’s arrest. However, the NPA stated that the evidence provided thus far does not support criminal charges against him. Authorities are continuing their inquiry to determine if he or others connected to the property had any involvement in the crime.

According to reports, law enforcement has yet to uncover any proof linking Mbuso Mandela to the stolen vehicle. Despite his release, legal experts caution that further evidence could lead to additional charges. “The release is procedural when evidence is insufficient, but the investigation remains ongoing,” explained Thando Mokoena, a criminal lawyer.

During his court appearance at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, Mbuso Mandela did not address the media and was seen leaving the courthouse shortly after proceedings concluded. The Mandela family has chosen not to comment publicly on the matter. A source close to the family described the situation as “stressful” and emphasized their decision to maintain silence while investigations continue.

The case has drawn significant public interest due to its association with the Mandela family and the historical Houghton property, a site steeped in legacy and importance. Officials have remained tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding the stolen vehicle and whether it implicates anyone connected to the property.

The situation has also raised broader concerns about the security of culturally and historically significant assets. Authorities are focusing on uncovering the details of the theft and determining if any illicit activities occurred on the premises.

For now, Mbuso Mandela’s release does not signal the end of the matter. The ongoing investigation will seek to establish any connections between the vehicle and the property, with legal experts noting that further developments could emerge if new evidence comes to light.
