A devastating minibus taxi accident on the N2 southbound near Spaghetti Junction on Monday morning claimed the lives of two male passengers and left multiple others seriously injured.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson confirmed that the crash occurred just after 6 a.m. Emergency crews were met with a scene of chaos after a taxi, carrying approximately 23 passengers, lost control, collided with a barrier, and rolled multiple times, ejecting most of its occupants.
“Paramedics arrived to find carnage and began triage while calling for additional resources to assist,” said Jamieson. At least 21 injured passengers, with injuries ranging from moderate to critical, were treated on-site and transported to various Durban hospitals for further care.
Tragically, two passengers, believed to be in their 30s and 40s, suffered fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene.
The accident has caused significant traffic disruptions, affecting both north and southbound lanes of the N2. Authorities have urged motorists to avoid the area as emergency workers continue their operations.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
