The uMkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) has issued a strong demand for the removal of what it deems the “illegitimate” Government of National Unity (GNU) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). The MKMVA accuses the current administration of being heavily influenced by external political and business interests, which they claim are detrimental to local communities and businesses.
“The time has come for decisive action. Our people, long excluded from economic opportunities, must take control of local businesses,” declared a senior MK leader during a recent address. The association alleges a damaging alliance between the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and Stellenbosch-based political and business networks, accusing the IFP of advancing the agenda of pro-illegal immigration groups at the expense of KZN’s local economy.
Central to MK’s grievances is the claim that the GNU, with IFP support, has failed to promote economic empowerment for local communities. Instead, they argue, the administration has allowed foreign competition to dominate key sectors such as retail and construction, marginalizing local entrepreneurs and stalling economic progress.
The MKMVA has called for immediate and strategic action to dismantle what they describe as a corrupt alliance, advocating for policies that empower local businesses and restore economic control to the province’s citizens. “The urgency cannot be overstated,” said the MK leader, emphasizing that the future of KZN’s economy and the well-being of its people are at stake.
As political tensions escalate in the province, the MKMVA’s demands are likely to intensify the spotlight on the GNU and its leadership. Observers are watching closely to see how these calls for change will influence the political landscape in the coming weeks.
