In a surprising turn of events, a senior member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has openly expressed relief over Floyd Shivambu’s departure from the party earlier this year. Shivambu, the former EFF deputy president, left to join the MK Party, led by former President Jacob Zuma. His exit, while controversial, has sparked mixed reactions within his former political home.

The EFF member, speaking candidly, stated, “Thank you, MK Party, for saving us from Floyd Shivambu. He was never our favourite in the EFF.” The remark, which elicited laughter and applause, highlighted growing divisions within the EFF’s leadership.

Shivambu’s defection to the MK Party has sent shockwaves through South Africa’s political landscape. Once considered a key figure in the EFF’s rise, Shivambu was instrumental in shaping the party’s direction. However, his shift towards the MK Party, which is positioning itself as a radical alternative under Zuma’s leadership, marks a significant departure.

Internal critics of Shivambu within the EFF have long claimed that his leadership style and political vision clashed with that of party leader Julius Malema. Sources suggest that Shivambu’s departure was not entirely unexpected, with tensions simmering for years.

The MK Party, however, welcomed Shivambu with open arms, praising him as “a formidable thinker and a committed fighter for economic freedom.” In response to his critics, Shivambu has accused the EFF of abandoning its revolutionary roots.

As the EFF continues to dominate South African politics, Shivambu’s departure and the subsequent backlash may reveal deeper fractures within the party. The long-term impact of his move to the MK Party, and whether it strengthens its influence, remains to be seen.

Thank you MKP for saving us from Floyd Shivambu,he was never our favourite in the EFF
