EFF leader Julius Malema has directed his party’s legal team to initiate proceedings to attach former President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla homestead in a bid to recover unpaid legal fees.
Speaking to supporters during a march to the Constitutional Court in Johannesburg, Malema accused Zuma of failing to comply with court orders to settle the costs of several legal battles the EFF won against him.
“Zuma is owing us the legal fees,” Malema said. “We have an order that he must pay our money, but he has not complied. We’ve instructed our lawyers to attach assets to recover what is due to us.”
Malema claimed that Zuma used funds meant for legal fees to pay for other legal challenges, further aggravating the situation.
The announcement comes amid growing tensions between the EFF and Zuma’s newly formed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party. Several high-profile EFF members, including former deputy Floyd Shivambu, recently defected to Zuma’s party, intensifying the rivalry.
The EFF leader’s bold statement highlights the escalating political and legal battles between the two factions, as the 2024 elections draw near. Zuma has yet to respond publicly to Malema’s remarks or the potential seizure of Nkandla.
