Kaizer Chiefs advanced to the final of the Home of Legends Cup after a convincing 2-0 victory against Golden Arrows at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday morning. Goals from Mfundo Vilakazi and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo ensured Amakhosi’s progression, setting up a clash with either Mamelodi Sundowns or Chippa United in the final later today.
The match started with high intensity, and Chiefs wasted no time making their mark. In just the sixth minute, Mfundo Vilakazi opened the scoring, capitalizing on a well-placed cross from Reeve Frosler to give his team an early lead. Despite continued pressure, Arrows goalkeeper Nkosingiphile Gumede produced a series of fine saves to keep his side in the contest, as Chiefs carried a narrow 1-0 advantage into halftime.
The second half saw Chiefs double their lead in the 50th minute, courtesy of an error in the Golden Arrows defense. Ngcobo pounced on the mistake, calmly slotting home to give Amakhosi a comfortable cushion.
Golden Arrows had opportunities to pull one back, with Blessing Mchunu coming close in the 64th minute, but Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma, stepping in for Rwanda’s Facre Ntwari who is on international duty, made a crucial save. In the dying moments, Gladwin Shitolo missed a golden opportunity to score, sending his free header wide.
Kaizer Chiefs will now turn their attention to the final, scheduled for 5 PM today, as they aim to lift the Home of Legends Cup and continue their strong form.
