  • On her 40th birthday, musician Kelly Khumalo revealed she’s now a certified inyanga, completing a 15-year journey in traditional healing.
  • Khumalo shared that her calling is a “universal gift,” with her training encompassing diverse spiritual practices in nature, water, prayer, and ancestral roots.
  • She also announced an upcoming project, *20 Years of Kelly Khumalo*, marking two decades in the music industry and a renewed personal journey.

In a heartfelt and surprising announcement, celebrated South African musician Kelly Khumalo revealed on her 40th birthday that she is now a certified inyanga, or traditional healer. During an interview on November 11 with Ukhozi FM, Khumalo shared that the path to this milestone has been long and challenging, encompassing 15 years of diverse spiritual training and self-discovery.

“Today, as I’m celebrating my birthday, I’m also graduating as inyanga. So now, I’m officially inyanga,” she announced. Khumalo explained that her journey began with a quest to find her true path and purpose, which led her through various forms of traditional healing. “After 15 years of searching and trying to figure out who I am, today I’m finally graduating,” she shared.

Khumalo described her calling as unique, explaining that her gift extends beyond traditional boundaries. “Mine is different. It’s not just traditional healing but a universal gift. It’s not only focused on black people, but it’ll go all over the world. That’s why it took longer for me to even figure it out, gogo,” she told Ukhozi FM’s Mroza Buthelezi, whom she respectfully called “gogo.”

Her training was extensive and involved spiritual practices in various settings, including water, nature, and through prayer. “I was trained four to five times, but today is the first time I’m graduating as inyanga. I was trained in many places… through my roots, because it’s important to know where I come from to know where I’m going.”

In addition to her graduation as inyanga, Khumalo has ambitious plans for her music career. She is working on a project titled *20 Years of Kelly Khumalo*, set for release in early 2025, which will commemorate her two decades in the industry. Reflecting on these milestones, she said, “I’m celebrating many milestones: 20 years in the industry, turning 40, and graduating as inyanga for the first time. For me, it feels like I’m given a new life, and everything is renewed and restored.”
