  • EFF National Organizer Floyd Shivambu declared the uMkhonto WeSizwe (MK) movement’s stance against undocumented immigration, emphasizing law and sovereignty.
  • Shivambu clarified that while MK supports Pan-Africanism, this support is grounded in respecting national immigration laws.
  • MK’s position highlights a balanced approach, advocating for Pan-African unity alongside the enforcement of lawful immigration procedures.

In a statement that has sparked significant attention, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) National Organizer Floyd Shivambu reinforced the uMkhonto WeSizwe (MK) movement’s firm stance against undocumented or unlawful immigration. Speaking at a recent press briefing, Shivambu made clear that while the organization remains committed to Pan-Africanism, it draws a line at illegal immigration.

“We support Pan Africanism that respects law and order. We do not associate with undocumented and unlawful immigration,” Shivambu said, adding that MK’s immigration policy is founded on principles of legality and respect for South Africa’s sovereignty. His remarks seek to clarify MK’s position amid growing debates over immigration policy and the influx of migrants into South Africa.

MK has long advocated for African solidarity and the rights of African people. However, Shivambu emphasized that this support does not extend to those entering the country through illegal means, underscoring the importance of respecting South Africa’s immigration laws.

Shivambu’s statement reflects a broader trend within African political movements, which increasingly advocate for a balance between Pan-African solidarity and adherence to lawful immigration practices. While MK supports the principle of free movement within the continent, Shivambu noted this should occur within the bounds of national regulations, respecting both legal processes and South African national security.

As South Africa continues to grapple with the complexities of migration, MK’s position provides a nuanced approach, emphasizing Pan-African unity while prioritizing the importance of lawful entry procedures.
