Eight people tragically lost their lives in a horrific collision between a car and a truck on the N2 near Mandeni on KwaZulu-Natal’s north coast early Friday morning. Emergency services were called to the scene around 5:30 a.m., where they found both vehicles severely damaged.

A devastating accident involving a car and a truck on the N2 near Mandeni, along KwaZulu-Natal’s north coast, has claimed the lives of eight people on Friday morning. The crash, which has also left the truck driver critically injured, has prompted an urgent response from emergency services.

The truck driver was rushed to the hospital for medical attention, while the accident scene remains active as rescue teams continue their efforts. Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Sindi Msimang confirmed that all emergency services are on site, working to manage the situation.

In addition to the fatalities, search and rescue teams are actively searching for children who are feared to be missing. IPSS Paramedics spokesperson Samantha Meyrick reported that the search for possible additional victims is ongoing. She also confirmed that the N2 has been closed in both directions between bridges as the rescue operation and investigation proceed.

This tragic accident has shocked the local community, and authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution on the roads, especially as more information about the cause of the collision becomes available. The story is still developing as search and rescue teams continue their critical work.
