The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has demanded the resignation of three of its members in the Mpumalanga Legislature, citing actions that have brought the party into disrepute. The party, which holds nine seats in the provincial legislature, has taken this step as part of its commitment to preserving its integrity and public image.

MKP Secretary-General Sifiso Maseko issued a formal letter to the members, urging them to step down within three days or face formal removal. The members have been under investigation for mismanagement, though specific details of the allegations have not been disclosed. Maseko emphasized the need for adherence to the party’s constitution and code of conduct, warning that failure to comply would lead to further consequences in line with party guidelines.

Aubrey Mtsweni, MKP spokesperson in Mpumalanga, acknowledged the party’s internal issues but expressed confidence that they could be resolved without external intervention. He highlighted the party’s proactive approach in dealing with potential wrongdoing, underscoring MKP’s commitment to integrity, accountability, and transparency.

The MKP’s actions, especially given its representation in the National Assembly and provincial legislatures, set a noteworthy example for governance and accountability within South African politics. The outcome of this situation will be closely monitored, as it could influence the party’s public standing and relationships with its constituents.
