Fikile Mbalula Questions Rationale Behind Veteran ANC Members Leaving, Cites Jacob Zuma’s Rumored Breakaway Movement

ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has voiced concern over veteran ANC members potentially leaving the party, specifically questioning why long-standing loyalists would depart at an advanced age. His remarks appear to reference former President Jacob Zuma, who has hinted at the formation of a new political entity, possibly stemming from the MK Party or a faction aligned with him.

Mbalula expressed skepticism over Zuma’s suggestion of creating a “new ANC” quickly, casting doubt on the viability of such an initiative. He questioned the logic of individuals abandoning the ANC after decades of commitment, particularly at a time when the party faces critical challenges in maintaining its political dominance in South Africa.

The ANC SG’s comments point to ongoing internal divisions and frustrations as factions continue to shape the party’s future. While some may see a potential breakaway as an opportunity for reform, others, like Mbalula, view it as a threat to the party’s unity. His concerns highlight the broader issue of loyalty and stability within the ANC, as key figures leaving for a new, untested political movement could further destabilize the organization.

As speculation grows around Zuma’s rumored breakaway party, many are watching closely to see how these developments will impact the ANC and South Africa’s political landscape.
