Khumalo has accused the daughter of former statesman Jacob Zuma of writing a fraudulent letter to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) to change the party’s leadership.
He wants his expulsion from the party declared invalid and unlawful.
Zuma ousted Khumalo and other party leaders weeks before the general election.
The letter sent to the IEC on 9 April 2024, notifies the commission of Khumalo’s resignation as party leader and requests that he be replaced by Zuma.
It also informs the commission of Zuma’s face to appear on the ballot paper.
According to regulations for the registration of political parties – that letter could only be written by Khumalo as the registered contact person and leader of the party.
But Khumalo’s lawyer – advocate Mfesane kaSibito has accused Duduzile Zuma- Sambudla of going as far as forging his signature in that letter – which he claims to know nothing about.
He also drew distinctions between that letter and the one he wrote hours later.
KaSiboto has criticised the IEC for not verifying the Khumalo’s letter with him and establishing his intention.
Judgement in the matter has been reserved.
