In a successful operation against narcotics distribution, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department’s (EMPD) Eastern Region Task Team apprehended a 36-year-old African male suspect on Thursday, March 14th, 2024, at approximately 10:00 AM. The arrest took place in Tsakane and resulted in the seizure of narcotics valued at eight thousand five hundred Rand (R8,500).
EMPD officers were conducting routine law enforcement patrols in the Tsakane area when they received valuable intel from a credible source. The tip-off indicated a young man openly selling illegal substances within the community. Acting swiftly on this information, the officers proceeded to the identified location on Ndongeni Street.
Upon arrival at the address, the officers encountered a male occupant within the premises. To ensure a thorough investigation, a comprehensive search was conducted of both the individual and the dwelling. During the suspect’s body search, officers uncovered a transparent plastic bag containing eighty-five (85) individual ziplock packets filled with a brown substance suspected to be narcotics.
The search further yielded a black portable scale found on a table in the immediate vicinity of the suspect. This additional evidence strongly suggested the potential for drug dealing activity. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the EMPD officers apprehended the suspect. He was handcuffed and subsequently transported to the Tsakane police station to face formal charges.
The investigation points towards the suspect being charged with both possession and possible dealing of illicit substances. He is expected to appear before the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court at a forthcoming date. The court will determine the appropriate penalties based on the evidence presented.
